Ultrasound-Guided Lower Limb Surgery

This two-day course is designed for orthopaedic surgeons and physicians interested in ultrasound-guided and minimally invasive lower-limb procedures.

Each technique will first be presented step by step, with ultrasound landmarks, surgical videos, safety considerations, and practical tips.

Participants will then observe a faculty demonstration before practising the procedure themselves on cadaveric specimens.

The exceptionally hands-on format provides approximately one instructor for every two participants, allowing each participant one to two hours of supervised cadaveric practice during each teaching session.

The programme will cover several procedures, including:

• ultrasound-guided decompression of Morton’s neuroma;
• proximal and distal tarsal tunnel release;
• gastrocnemius recession;
• plantar fascia release;
• ultrasound-guided fasciotomy for chronic exertional compartment syndrome;
• iliotibial band release;
• selected peripheral nerve decompression and hydrodissection techniques.

Our objective is for participants to leave the course with several procedures that they understand precisely and can progressively introduce into their clinical practice.

However, attending the IRCAD course provides an essential additional step for colleagues wishing to begin performing ultrasound-guided surgery: they will be able to practise the techniques on cadaveric specimens under close faculty supervision, receive immediate feedback, and become familiar with the gestures before considering their clinical implementation.
